Neotype: AMS I.28788-001. Species later described in more detail in Steindachner 1884:1075 [p. 11 of separate] [ref. 4234]. Neotype designated by Crowley & Ivantsoff 1990:95 [ref. 19216] based on locality suggested by Jordan & Hubbs 1919:45 [ref. 2485]. •Valid as Craterocephalus eyresii (Steindachner 1883) -- (Cadwallader & Backhouse 1983:94 [ref. 25473], Paxton et al. 1989:358 [ref. 12442], Crowley & Ivantsoff 1990:95 [ref. 19216], Larson & Martin 1990:31 [ref. 16606], Crowley & Ivantsoff 1992:278 [ref. 20015], Ivantsoff & Crowley in McDowall 1996:126 [ref. 22909], Unmack 2001:1061 [ref. 25797], Allen et al. 2002:131 [ref. 25930], Hammer & Walker 2004:88 [ref. 28129], Larson et al. 2005:84 [ref. 28361], Paxton et al. 2006:706 [ref. 28995], Ivantsoff & Allen 2011:54 [ref. 31135], Hammer et al. 2012:64 [ref. 32389]). Current status: Valid as Craterocephalus eyresii (Steindachner 1883). Atherinidae: Craterocephalinae. Distribution: South Australia, Australia. Habitat: freshwater, brackish.
