Paratypes: MCZ 37228 [ex USNM 149583] (1), USNM 149583 (now 0). •Synonym of Cirrhitus pinnulatus (Forster 1801) -- (Randall 1963:396 [ref. 3599], Randall 2001:3326 [ref. 26128], Randall 2005:175 [ref. 28239], Randall 2007:203 [ref. 30952]). •Valid as Cirrhitus spilotoceps Schultz 1950 -- (Gaither & Randall 2013:193 [ref. 32383], Golani & Fricke 2018:118 [ref. 36273], Zajonz et al. 2019:71 [ref. 36871], Donaldson & Randall 2022:79 [ref. 39891]). Current status: Valid as Cirrhitus spilotoceps Schultz 1950. Cirrhitidae. Distribution: Red Sea; northwestern Indian Ocean: Socotra (Xemen), Gulf of Oman. Habitat: marine.
