Syntypes: 1893.1.17.4 (1), 1893.11.15.1-3 (3), 1893.11.15.4 (1, skeleton), 1893.11.15.5 (1), ?1893.11.15.24-32 (9?). •Valid as Haplochromis callipterus (Günther 1894) -- (van Oijen et al. 1991:113 [ref. 20956]). •Valid as Astatotilapia calliptera (Günther 1894) -- (Skelton 1993:295 [ref. 24071], Skelton 2001:300 [ref. 27406], Scharpf 2009:3 [ref. 30400], Marshall 2011:217 [ref. 31755], Konings 2016:291 [ref. 34521], Robins et al. 2018:367 [ref. 35886]). Current status: Valid as Astatotilapia calliptera (Günther 1894). Cichlidae: Pseudocrenilabrinae. Distribution: Eastern African lakes and rivers; now in Florida. Habitat: freshwater.
