Syntypes: MCZ 28767-70 (1, 6, 2), 28770 (1), 68368-73 (3, 6, 1, 1, 1, 1); USNM 153608 [ex MCZ 28767] (2), 292825 (1). •Valid as Pontinus furcirhinus Garman 1899 -- (Bussing & López S. 1994:82 [ref. 23101], Poss in Fischer et al. 1995:1550 [ref. 22830], Grove & Lavenberg 1997:295 [ref. 24023], Chirichigno F. & Vélez D. 1998:272 [ref. 24555], Nelson et al. 2004:113 [ref. 27807], Love et al. 2005:73 [ref. 37547], Page et al. 2013:116 [ref. 32708], Robertson et al. 2017:77 [ref. 35676]). Current status: Valid as Pontinus furcirhinus Garman 1899. Scorpaenidae: Scorpaeninae. Distribution: Eastern Pacific: Pacific coast of Baja California Sur (Mexico) to northern Peru, including Gulf of California (Mexico) and Cocos Island (Costa Rica). IUCN (2010): Least concern. Habitat: marine.
