Paratypes: AMS IA.7190 (1). •Synonym of Platycephalus bassensis Cuvier 1829 -- (Paxton et al. 1989:468 [ref. 12442], Paxton et al. 2006:940 [ref. 29079]). •Valid as Platycephalus westraliae (Whitley 1938) -- (Imamura 2008:404-405 [ref. 29892], Imamura 2012:119 [ref. 33646], Larson et al. 2013:91 [ref. 32988], Imamura 2013:282 [ref. 33362], Imamura 2015:194 [ref. 33640]). Current status: Valid as Platycephalus westraliae (Whitley 1938). Platycephalidae. Distribution: New South Wales across northern Australia to Fremantle, Western Australia; southern coasts of Papua New Guinea and Java. Habitat: marine.
