Paralectotypes: (85) RMNH.PISC.35256 (now 26) (formerly 6187), other species in part represented. Lectotype named by Shibukawa et al. 2013:154 [ref. 32951]. •Synonym of Gobiodon rivulatus (Rüppell 1830) -- (Dor 1984:246 [ref. 29757]). •Synonym of Gobiodon histrio (Valenciennes 1837) -- (Randall 2005:537 [ref. 28239]). •Valid as Gobiodon erythrospilus Bleeker 1875 -- (Suzuki et al. 1995:4 [ref. 24355], Harold & Winterbottom 1999:56 [ref. 23701], Myers 1999:255 [ref. 23965], Nakabo 2000:1188 [ref. 25182], Nakabo 2002:1188 [ref. 26193], Allen & Adrim 2003:59 [ref. 26830], Harold et al. 2008:120 [ref. 29450], Shibukawa 2009:276 [ref. 30449], Suzuku et al. 2012:59 [ref. 32027], Allen & Erdmann 2012:897 [ref. 31980], Shibukawa et al. 2013:153 [ref. 32951], Fricke et al. 2014:166 [ref. 33932], Parenti 2021:169 [ref. 38603]).
