taenianotus, Apistus Cuvier [G.] 1829:168 [Le Règne Animal (Edition 2) v. 2; ref. 995] Mauritius [questioned in ref. 31980], Mascarenes, southwestern Indian Ocean. Holotype (unique): MNHN (apparently lost). Type catalog: Blanc & Hureau 1968:60 [ref. 20738]. Appeared first in footnote in Cuvier 1829:168 [ref. 995] but as Ap. taenianotus, but Ap. tied to a vernacular "Les Apistes" and not to a Latinized generic name. Distribution: Indo-West Pacific: Seychelles, Madagascar and Mascarenes (La Réunion, Mauritius, Rodrigues) east to Philippines and Fiji, north to Kagoshima Prefecture (southern Japan), south to Western Australia and Queensland (Australia), Lord Howe Island and Norfolk Island (Australia). Habitat: marine.
