Holotype (unique): SAM 12275. •Valid as Pseudoxenomystax albescens (Barnard 1923) -- (Nakamura in Nakamura et al. 1986:66 [ref. 14235], Pequeño 1989:25 [ref. 14125], Bianchi & Carpenter in Bianchi et al. 1993:137 [ref. 25472]). •Valid as Bassanago albescens (Barnard 1923) -- (Castle 1986:163 [ref. 5644], López et al. 2002:62 [ref. 26808], Menezes et al. in Menezes et al. 2003:36 [ref. 27192], Figueroa & Ehrlich 2006:227 [ref. 29812], Caires & Figueiredo 2011:366 [ref. 31202], Mabragaña et al. 2011:table S2m [ref. 31800], Nión et al. 2016:25 [ref. 35565]). Current status: Valid as Bassanago albescens (Barnard 1923). Congridae: Congrinae. Distribution: Southeastern Pacific: Patagonia; southeastern Atlantic: Namibia to South Africa; southwestern Atlantic: Argentina and Brazil. Habitat: marine.
