S.] 1913:20, Pl. 12 (figs. 1, 1a) [Materialy k' Poznaniju russkago rybolovstva, G.U.Z.iZ., Department' Zemledelija v. 2 (no. 3); ref. 14941] Off Tyuleniy Island, north of Agrakhan Bay, Russia, Caspian Sea. Lectotype: ZIN 15928 (190 mm). Paralectotypes: (30+) ZIN 15928 (3, with lectotype), 32157 (11), 32159 (13). Also appeared in Berg 1913:475 [ref. 273]. Lectotype established by Svetovidov 1952:227. •Valid as Caspialosa sphaerocephala (Berg 1913) -- (Berg 1948:122 [ref. 12882]). •Valid as Alosa sphaerocephala (Berg 1913) -- (Whitehead 1985:209 [ref. 5141], Coad 1995:8 [ref. 23608], Reshetnikov et al. 1997:727 [ref. 24702], Dorofeeva 1998:28 [ref. 23573], Coad 1998:102 [ref. 23869], Bogutskaya & Naseka 2004:34 [ref. 28183], Esmaeili et al. 2010:366 [ref. 33391], Jouladeh-Roudbar et al. 2015:859 [ref. 34062], Esmaeili et al. 2017:29 [ref. 35254], Esmaeili et al. 2018:9 [ref. 36089], Jouladeh-Roudbar et al. 2020:25 [ref. 37983], Dyldin et al. 2022:[15] [ref. 39193], Çiçek et al. 2024:42 [ref. 40789]). Current status: Valid as Alosa sphaerocephala (Berg 1913). Alosidae. Distribution: Eurasia: Caspian Sea basin. Habitat: brackish.
