Paratypes: BSKU 45365-66 (1, 1), 45368-70 and 72-73 (5), 45371 (1, c&s); NSMT-P 30813 (1). •Valid as Muraenichthys borealis Machida & Shiogaki 1990 -- (Machida & Ohta 1996:79 [ref. 22154], Nakabo 2000:216 [ref. 25086], Nakabo 2002:216 [ref. 26001]). •Valid as Scolecenchelys borealis (Machida & Shiogaki 1990) -- (Castle & McCosker 1999:121 [ref. 24075], Hoshino et al. 2011:184 [ref. 31273]). •Synonym of Scolecenchelys aoki (Jordan & Snyder 1901) -- (Hibino et al. 2012:180 [ref. 32443], Ji et al. 2013:591 [ref. 36298], Hibino & Kimura 2015:5 [ref. 33951]). Current status: Synonym of Scolecenchelys aoki (Jordan & Snyder 1901). Ophichthidae: Myrophinae. Habitat: marine.
