Holotype: AMNH 98269. Paratypes: AMNH 98270 (33); MRAC 73-40-P-747-748 (2); ZSM 28200 (20). Type catalog: Neumann 2011:252 [ref. 31652]. The specific name gutterosa is treated as an adjective. •Valid as Tilapia gutturosa Stiassny, Schliewen & Dominey 1992 -- (Stiassny et al. 2007:373 [ref. 30045], Dunz & Schliewen 2010:276 [ref. 31064], Dunz & Schliewen 2012:18 [ref. 31983]). •Valid as Coptodon gutturosus (Stiassny, Schliewen & Dominey 1992) -- (Dunz & Schliewen 2013:73 [ref. 32672] as gutterosa). Current status: Valid as Coptodon gutturosus (Stiassny, Schliewen & Dominey 1992). Cichlidae: Pseudocrenilabrinae. Distribution: West-central Africa: Lake Bermin, Cameroon. Habitat: freshwater.
