Paratypes: SMF 3827 (20), 3976 (1). •Synonym of Tetraodon fangi Pellegrin & Chevey 1940 -- (Dekkers 1975:112 [ref. 7417]). •See Kottelat 1998:120 [ref. 23436]. •Synonym of Tetraodon cochinchinensis (Steindachner 1866) -- (Ebert 2001:21 [ref. 25494]). •Synonym of Monotrete cochinchinensis (Steindachner 1866) -- (Kottelat 2001:166 [ref. 25780]). •Valid as Monotrete ocellaris (Klausewitz 1957) -- (Tan & Kottelat 2009:64 [ref. 30261]). •Valid as Pao ocellaris (Klausewitz 1957) -- (Kottelat 2013:480 [ref. 32989]). Current status: Valid as Pao ocellaris (Klausewitz 1957). Tetraodontidae. Distribution: Malay Peninsula. Habitat: freshwater.
