Holotype: MCP 26478. Paratypes: MCP 23113 (4, 1 c&s), 24488 (2), 24489 (8), 26763 (3), 26831 (1), 27461 (9), 28110 (8), 28111 (4); MZUSP 70015 (4); UFRGS 1566 (7), 1567 (6); USNM 365794 (4). Plus additional non-type material. •Valid as Jenynsia onca Lucinda, Reis & Quevedo 2002 -- (Ghedotti in Reis et al. 2003:584 [ref. 27061], Aguilera & Mirande 2005:29 [ref. 28572], Lucinda et al. 2006:619 [ref. 28893], Aguilera et al. 2013:571 [ref. 32916], Litz & Koerber 2014:32 [ref. 33622], Bertaco et al. 2016:423 [ref. 34561], Nión et al. 2016:43 [ref. 35565] as onça, Huber 2019:15 [ref. 36941]). Current status: Valid as Jenynsia onca Lucinda, Reis & Quevedo 2002. Anablepidae: Anablepinae. Distribution: Ibicuí River basin in Brazil and Negro River basin in Uruguay. Habitat: freshwater.
