Paratypes: ZIN 9972 (7), 10167 (7), 44445 (5), 44449 (1), 53212 (4), 53213 (4), 53214 (23), 53215 (25). •Synonym of Benthophilus stellatus (Sauvage 1874) -- (Parin et al. 2015:478 [ref. 33547]). •Valid as Benthophilus durrelli Boldyrev & Bogutskaya 2004 -- (Bogutskaya & Naseka 2004:216 [ref. 28183], Boldyrev & Bogutskaya 2007:53 [ref. 29150], Kottelat & Freyhof 2007:557 [ref. 29996], Neilson & Stepien 2009:96 [ref. 30497], Freyhof 2011:282 [ref. 31742], Kovačić et al. 2021:57 [ref. 38346], Parenti 2021:70 [ref. 38603]). Current status: Valid as Benthophilus durrelli Boldyrev & Bogutskaya 2004. Gobiidae: Gobiinae. Distribution: Eurasia: Sea of Azov and Don River basin; introduced into the Volga River. Habitat: freshwater, brackish.
