Paratypes: UMMZ 181796 (7, now 6, 1 c&s), 187725 (4), 187763 (1, c&s); USNM 118100 [ex USNM 62292] (1). Additional material: UMMZ. •Valid as Gobionellus atripinnis Gilbert & Randall 1979 -- (Lee et al. 1980:791 [ref. 22416], Espinosa Pérez et al. 1993:74 [ref. 22290], Castro-Aguirre et al. 1999:444 [ref. 24550], Musick 2000:18 [ref. 24959]). •Synonym of Ctenogobius claytoni [claytonii] (Meek 1902) -- (Pezold 2004:273 [ref. 27685], Scharpf 2009:13 [ref. 30400]). Current status: Synonym of Ctenogobius claytonii (Meek 1902). Gobiidae: Gobionellinae. Habitat: freshwater, brackish.
