Albula Scopoli [J. A.] (ex Gronow) 1777:450 Fem. Esox vulpes Linnaeus 1758. Early nomenclatural history confused; this authorship the valid one for the bonefish genus (see Whitehead 1986 [ref. 5733]). Atopichthys Garman [S.] 1899:326 Masc. Atopichthys esunculus Garman 1899. Type by subsequent designation. Spelled Atopichthyes on p. 325 and once in list of figures. Regarded as an available genus-group name as a collective group. Type designated by Jordan 1920:486 [ref. 4905]. Used in the sense of a genus by Garman as a temporary catchall for unplaced larval eels, some now reassigned (see Raju 1985 [ref. 5287]). •Synonym of Albula Scopoli 1777 -- (Whitehead 1986:216 [ref. 5733], Kottelat 2013:35 [ref. 32989]). •See Mundy 2005:139 [ref. 28379]. Conorynchus Nozeman [C.] 1758:381, pl. 25 Masc. Clupea macrocephala Lacepède 1803. Type by subsequent designation. Original without included species; Gill 1861:55 [ref. 1766], as Conorhynchus, provided a type (see Whitehead 1986:214 [ref. 5733]). Whitehead regards Conorynchus Nozeman as the senior synonym of Albula but to be rejected as a forgotten name (nomen oblitum). •Synonym of Albula Scopoli 1777 -- (Kottelat 2013:34 [ref. 32989]). Dixonina Fowler [H. W.] 1911:651 Fem. Dixonina nemoptera Fowler 1911. Glossodonta Cuvier [G.] 1815:232, 233 Masc. Argentina glossodonta Forsskål 1775. Type by monotypy (also by absolute tautonymy). This genus does not exist; the genus was never mentioned (Kottelat 2013:35 [ref. 32989]). •Synonym of Albula Scopoli 1777 -- (see Whitehead 1986:215 [ref. 5733]). Glossodus Agassiz [L.] in Spix & Agassiz 1829:48 Masc. Glossodus forskalii Spix & Agassiz 1829 (= Argentina glossodonta Forsskål 1775). Type by monotypy. Based on Glossodonta Cuvier 1815, not available. The species Glossodus forskalii is an unneeded substitute for A. glossodonta. Prior to and senior synonym of Bathythrissa Günther, 1 Nov. 1877, Pterothrissus dating to 3 Sept. 1877 (see Goode & Bean 1896:51 [ref. 1848]). •Synonym of fossil genus Istieus Agassiz 1844 -- (Robins 1989:18 [ref. 13483]). •Valid as Pterothrissus Hilgendorf 1877 -- (Schwarzhans 1981:80 [ref. 3988] on fossil otoliths and in Pterothrissidae, Uyeno in Masuda et al. 1984:21 [ref. 6441], Smith 1986:157 [ref. 5712], Shinohara et al. 2011:39 [ref. 31715], Parin et al. 2014:46 [ref. 33547], Hidaka et al. 2016:[5] [ref. 34592]).
