Two species, earliest type designation not researched, but perhaps both species and the genus without distinguishing features. •Synonym of Squatina Duméril 1805 -- (Compagno 1984:138 [ref. 6474], Cappetta 1987:68 [ref. 6348]) as Squalraja. Current status: Synonym of Squatina Duméril 1805. Squatinidae.

Squatina Duméril [A. M. C.] 1805:102, 342 Fem. Squalus squatina Linnaeus 1758. Type by subsequent designation. Appeared without Latinized species. Subsequent addition al species not researched. Type generally regarded as S. squatina, implied by tautonymy. Apparently Duméril (as a vernacular name) and later authors applied the species name angelus, with S. angelus an unneeded substitute for S. squatina. Compagno 1984:138 [ref. 6474] indicates that the type is S. vulgaris Risso 1810 by subsequent monotypy. Also appeared as new (sensu Plinius) in Billberg 1833:52 [ref. 34146] as Sqvatina; see Kullander 2016:109 [ref. 34147]. Risso cites Duméril so genus may not have been an original description, but may be the first addition of species for Duméril's Squatina. •Synonym of Squatina Duméril 1805 -- (Krefft 1973:49 [ref. 7166]).
