Confused with Genyatremus luteus (Bloch 1790) by various authors (see also account of that taxon). •Synonym of Genyatremus luteus (Bloch 1790) -- (Parenti 2019:157 [ref. 37021]). •Valid as Genyatremus cavifrons (Cuvier 1830) -- (Tavera et al. 2011:[6] 320 [ref. 31319], Tavera et al. 2012:6 [ref. 32469]). Current status: Valid as Genyatremus cavifrons (Cuvier 1830). Haemulidae: Plectorhinchinae. Distribution: Western Atlantic: Venezuela south to southern Brazil. IUCN (2016): Data deficient. Habitat: brackish, marine.
