Lectotype: AMNH 5206. Paralectotypes: AMNH 5394 (2). Originally intended holotype not identifiable; lectotype selected by Dawson 1977:157 [ref. 1067]. •Valid as Heteristius cinctus (Osburn & Nichols 1916) -- (Dawson 1977:155 [ref. 1067], Allen & Robertson 1994:224 [ref. 22193], De La Cruz Agüero et al. 1997:120 [ref. 24545], Nelson et al. 2004:162 [ref. 27807], Love et al. 2005:153 [ref. 37547], Hastings & Springer 2009:7 [ref. 30391], Patzner et al. 2009:472 [ref. 30396], Page et al. 2013:167 [ref. 32708], Love et al. 2021:195 [ref. 39279]). Current status: Valid as Heteristius cinctus (Osburn & Nichols 1916). Dactyloscopidae. Distribution: Eastern Pacific: Pacific coast of southern Baja California Sur (Mexico) south to Ecuador, including entrance of Gulf of California (Mexico). Habitat: marine.

B.] 1946:161, Pl. 21 (fig. 4) [Allan Hancock Pacific Expedition 1932-40, Los Angeles v. 9 (no. 6); ref. 3135] South of Cape Corrientes, off Black Rock, Jalisco, Mexico, 19°57'N, 105°32'W, depth 5-10 fathoms. Holotype: LACM 23185 [ex AHF 914]. Paratypes: LACM 23186 [ex AHF 915] (2), CAS-SU 39961 (1). Type catalog: Böhlke 1953:90 [ref. 12291]. •Synonym of Heteristius cinctus (Osburn & Nichols 1916) -- (Dawson 1977:155 [ref. 1067]). Current status: Synonym of Heteristius cinctus (Osburn & Nichols 1916). Dactyloscopidae. Habitat: marine.
