Syntypes: BMNH 1891.5.19.96-97 [from Eigenmann] (2), CAS 59663 [ex IU 4845] (3), MCZ 27399 (1), USNM 40128 (3). •Valid as Ilypnus gilberti (Eigenmann & Eigenmann 1889) -- (Eschmeyer & Herald 1983:263 [ref. 9277], De La Cruz Agüero et al. 1997:172 [ref. 24545], Ruiz-Campos et al. 2000:75 [ref. 24940], Nelson et al. 2004:172 [ref. 27807], Love et al. 2005:162 [ref. 37547], Van Tassell 2011:144 [ref. 31732], Page et al. 2013:177 [ref. 32708], Kells et al. 2016:306 [ref. 35888], Burton & Lea 2019:101 [ref. 37205], Love et al. 2021:205 [ref. 39279]). Current status: Valid as Ilypnus gilberti (Eigenmann & Eigenmann 1889). Gobiidae: Gobionellinae. Distribution: Eastern Pacific: northern California (U.S.A.) south to Pacific coast of southern Baja California Sur (Mexico), including Gulf of California (Mexico). Habitat: marine.

Holotype: YPM 1694. Paratypes: YPM 3974-76 (1, 1, 46). Type catalog: Moore & Boardman 1991:12 [ref. 16741] as luculentes. •Valid as Ilypnus luculentus (Ginsburg 1938) -- (Nelson et al. 2004:172 [ref. 27807], Van Tassell 2011:144 [ref. 31732], Page et al. 2013:177 [ref. 32708]). Current status: Valid as Ilypnus luculentus (Ginsburg 1938). Gobiidae: Gobionellinae. Distribution: Eastern Pacific: Gulf of California. Habitat: marine.
