Dates to publication in a separate, on p. 16 and Pl. 6 in 1839; journal version in 1840. •Mention -- (McCosker 1977:60 [ref. 6836]). •Valid as Ophichthus cylindroideus (Ranzani 1839) -- (McCosker et al. 1989:386 [ref. 13288], Leiby in Smith 1989:809 [ref. 13285], McCosker 2003:733 [ref. 26993], Menezes in Menezes et al. 2003:35 [ref. 27192] dated 1840, McCosker et al. 2012:11 [ref. 31982], Di Dario et al. 2013:262 [ref. 37503], Petry et al. 2016:300 [ref. 34966], Ribeiro et al. 2019:4 [ref. 36717], Rotundo et al. in Marceniuk et al. 2021:112 [ref. 38945]). Current status: Valid as Ophichthus cylindroideus (Ranzani 1839). Ophichthidae: Ophichthinae. Distribution: Western Atlantic. Habitat: marine.

Holotype (unique): BMNH 1985.11.27.2. •Valid as Ophichthus parilis (Richardson 1848) -- (McCosker 1977:81 [ref. 6836], Uyeno & Sasaki in Uyeno et al. 1983:121 [ref. 14275], Cervigón 1991:58 [ref. 24472], Cervigón 1992:374 [ref. 23827], Andreata & Séret 1996:582 [ref. 16204] as parilus dated 1844, Aguilera 1998:47 [ref. 24221] as parilus, Menezes in Menezes et al. 2003:35 [ref. 27192]). •Synonym of Ophichthus cylindroideus (Ranzani 1839) -- (McCosker et al. 1989:386 [ref. 13288], and pers. comm. 1/2010). Current status: Synonym of Ophichthus cylindroideus (Ranzani 1839). Ophichthidae: Ophichthinae. Distribution: Western Atlantic. Habitat: marine.
