Current status: Valid as Xenocephalus egregius (Jordan & Thompson 1905). Uranoscopidae. Distribution: Western Atlantic: Georgia south to Florida (U.S.A.); northern Gulf of Mexico. Habitat: marine. laticeps, Benthoscopus Longley [W. H.] & Hildebrand [S. F.] 1940:264, Figs. 20-21 [Papers Tortugas Laboratory, Carnegie Institution of Washington v. 32; ref. 2822] Tortugas, Florida, U.S.A., depth 90-175 fathoms. Holotype: USNM 108879.
