SFBay:2K Activities

The collection protocol of the project is shore-based and boat-based. The shore-based protocol is done in marinas throughout San Francisco Bay. Samples are collected directly from docks and pilings. The boat-based protocol uses a trawl net to get a larger representation of invertebrates as well as fishes. A mud sample from the bottom of the Bay is brought on board by a device called the "Petersen Grab" providing samples from which mud dwelling invertebrates can be examined and brought to the lab.
