Holotype (unique): BMNH 1860.3.6.1. Originally species spelled albo-plumbeus. Original genus should have been spelled Tetraodon. •Synonym of Takifugu poecilonotus (Temminck & Schlegel 1850) -- (Lindberg et al. 1997:141 [ref. 23547]). •Valid as Fugu alboplumbeus (Richardson 1845) -- (Cheng & Zhou 1997:493 [ref. 26385] dated 1844, Wang et al. 2001:337 [ref. 26566] dated 1844). •Synonym of Gastrophysus niphobles (Jordan & Snyder 1901) -- (Kottelat 2013:477 [ref. 32989] with question). •Synonym of Takifugu niphobles (Jordan & Snyder 1901) -- (Dyldin & Orlov 2017:202 [ref. 35257] with question). •Valid as Takifugu alboplumbeus (Richardson 1845) -- (Nakabo 2000:1423 [ref. 25182], Sadovy & Cornish 2000:287 [ref. 25480], Nakabo 2002:1423 [ref. 26193], Choi et al. 2003:453, 698 [ref. 26218], Matsuura 2017:72 [ref. 35985], Kim et al. 2020:203 [ref. 39118], Sonoyama et al. 2020:131 [ref. 37637], Dyldin et al. 2021:45 [ref. 38804]). Current status: Valid as Takifugu alboplumbeus (Richardson 1845). Tetraodontidae. Distribution: Northwestern Pacific: China to Korea, Russia and Japan. Habitat: freshwater, brackish, marine.
