Madagascar Palparinae

This subfamily contains some of the largest known antlions. There are 12 known genera (Mansell, 1992) and the center of distribution appears to be southern Africa. Larvae live in open sand and move actively both forwards and backwards just under the sand surface feeding on insects and other arthropods. There are three genera and six species known from Madagascar. The genera can be separated using the keys provided in Stange (2004).
