Specimen Remarks |
m, f, juveniles. Fixed in 10% buffered (dolomite) formalin ~1 month. |
Collecting Event Remarks |
Water temp. = 17 C. Traps set about 1100 hr Aug 8 and pulled about 1030 hr Aug 9. Number of fish per trap was very heterogeneous. Lots of leeches in traps. One nuptial male trapped, but accidently dropped in water. Many males had blue eyes and a little red on throat. There appears to be 3 age classes. The trap with the most fish had many other sticklebacks milling about it. It is still not obvious where to trap; traps near shore and 1-2 m out caught or failed to catch fish. Gasterosteus aculeatus: most in 10% formalin, 8 placed in dark for freezing after 24 hr, 3 in 70% ethanol, 3 in Brunks 1% sarkosyl solution. |
