Collecting Event Remarks |
Water temp. = 20 C. Five samples were made at sites aroun the Lake at the same locations as 1994 and 1995. Five unbaited minnow traps were set at each site. Traps set in order: A, D, E, B, C. Many stickleback seen, including reproductive males and gravid females. We will attempt a fry sample tomorrow. A pulled at 1000 hr 27 June, 400 stickleback. Gravid females and nuptial males present; morphs look heterogenous. C and D pulled by 1100 hr, 400 stickleback in C, 600 in D. Many fry seen at D, which is where we will sample them. B and E pulled by 1200 hr, 600 at B and 400 at E. Reproductive males and females at both. Baker reported that trout and northern pike resent. We saw lots of small salmonids. About 600 fry were fixed for in situ hybridization and hutochemical staining. They were dipnetted from a rubber boat by sweeping the net through the submerged and emergent vegetation near shore in 1 m of water. |
