Several sticklebacks spotted on east side. 4 June: collected 8 Pungitius from 15 traps set 3 June. Reset 17 traps in similar locations, plus 21 at mouth of stream from unnamed lake. 5 June: collected 4 live Pungitius and 1 dead male at mouth of stream. Also collected 15 Pungitius in small channels of creek. Both sides of road yielded gravid females, although majority of traps set on east side. Several nuptial males also collected, including one with pelvic spines. Two traps not recovered from creek site. Moose may have stepped on another. |

Water temp. = 18 C. A. set at 1935 hr on 10 June. 5 traps to right and 5 to left of boat ramp. They are pumping water here now, creating turbidity. A site traps pulled at 2000 hr on 12 June. Temperature 22°C now at boat ramp. DNA/brain sample: 10 traps set at 2045 hr on June 12. Water level obviously low here. 5 traps to left, 2 in front, 3 to right. Traps pulled at 2130 hr on June 13. Many stickleback, mostly 1+. A random sample of 100 specimens and a sample of complete morphs (85) collected and put on ice. Site B Gravel Pit: 10 traps set at 1900 hr on 13 June. School of 15 cm SL trout in area (about 25). Loon in middle of lake. Depth to 1 m. Traps pulled 1330 hr on 14 June. Site C Outlet: set 20 m east from outlet because of low water. 10 traps set at 1920 hr. Depth to 25 cm. Traps pulled 1350 hr on 14 June. Site D Lilly edge: there is a 4 m gap between recumbent tree limbs and the lily patch offshore. Dept to 35 cm. 10 traps set at 1950 hr. Traps pulled 1430 hr on 14 June. Site E near road: 10 traps set at 2005 hr. Depth to about 1 m. Traps pulled 1450 hr on 14 June. Every station produced 2 liters of sample and we threw a few hundred stickleback back at all but station A. It may be that larger stickleback were more common in deeper water. We released one Catostomus. We saw a loon feeding and a merganser on the lake. |
