Water temp. = 16 C. These Gasterosteus aculeatus were held at room temperature for about 5 days in ~7% ethanol in water which was mistakenly used instead of formalin. After 5 days, they were transferred to 10% buffered formalin. They are probably very poorly preserved. |

Water Temp. = 21.5 C. Many Gasterosteus aculeatus williamsoni with white spots on skin. One large dead one seen (not collected). At least 2 G. a. williamsoni collected with male nuptial color but swollen abdomens resembling females. Also present: Catostomus santaeanaae, Lepomus sp., and Gambusia affinis. |

Gasterosteus aculeatus was examined for secondary sex characters: male appearance of red nuptial coloring: pelvic fin or tip of lower jaw-29, lower jaw and throat-75, lower head and operculum-2. Female: abdominal swelling indicating developing ova, slight swelling-0, full swelling-0. Sex indeterminate: 119 (no nuptial coloring, abdomen not swollen). Total: 226. |

Collected nex to downstream island in current (Fixed in ethanol). 8C: G. a. williamsoni male same condition and position in pool as 8B. Fixed in 10% formalin. 8D: Fish from culvert (30 min sample). G. a. williamsoni: 5 males, 2 females, 2 indet. 8E: contents of net at bottom of culvert. 8F: Fish and insects from emergent plant mass 2 m long surrounded by seine and preserved. |
