Water Temp. = 21C. Most of the fish were seined in <25 cm of water. Upstream of this point G. aculeatus became increasingly rare until they became absent at point indicated on map. Conversely within the same stretch of stream, Oncorhynchus sp. become increasingly abundant. Upstream of this point the river becomes increasingly dominated by alternating riffles and pools with occassional water falls of about 3 a meter. However these falls are probably not used at during high water. |

Water Temp. = 27 C. Sticklebacks are not abundant here. Gila orcutti is very rare and only one Lepomis sp. was seen. The rarity of sticklebacks [Gasterosteus aculeatus] may be due to the warmth of water or high water velocity which is a result of the lack of vegetation due to motorcycle and car riding in the river bottom. This activity is also probably responsible for the lack of meanders and pools. No males with high nuptial coloration. Near Soledad guart station. Also caught Gila orcutti, Gambusia affinis, Catostomus sp., and Lepomis sp. |
