Water Body unnamed creek Drainage Island Group Island
Depth Width 7 m Salinity 0.6 Gear 10 ft, 1/8 inch mesh seine
Locality small unnamed creek south of Ten Mile River
Latitude-Longitude   Bottom Type sand with filamentous algae
Acc. Number 2018-X:19 Specimen Remarks m, f, juveniles. Fixed in 10% buffered (dolomite) formalin ~1 month.
Collecting Event Remarks Water temp. = 20.5 C. Many tadpoles present. Belostomatids present. Sticklebacks very rare. This is a small remnat of a previously large lagoon. This small lagoon is the mouth of the creek sampled in MAB76-21. We had wondered whether there would be completely plated sticklebacks here. They are absent upstream of road but in wet years this lagoon is probably connected to the sea. Thus, we wonder if anadromous sticklebacks might be using this lagoon but not be able to move through the culvert under the road. However, preliminary examination indicates all sticklebacks in the lagoon are low plated. Thamnophis couchi caught. It has two newly metamorphosed Bufo inside its stomach. Also caught Leptocottus armatus and Cottus sp.

Water Body Brush Creek Drainage Brush Creek Island Group Island
Depth Width ? m Salinity 0 Gear 10 ft, 1/8 inch mesh seine
Locality Brush Creek mouth
Latitude-Longitude 38.9750167°N, 123.7101917°W Bottom Type sand
Acc. Number 2018-X:19 Specimen Remarks m, f, juveniles. Fixed in 10% buffered (dolomite) formalin ~1 month.
Collecting Event Remarks Water temp. = ? C. This is a dry lagoon of Brush Creek. It appears to have gone dry within last few days, except for small pools 20mx1m (maximum) at deepest point. Sticklebacks died in large number well before complete drying. Intact bodies were collected dry from sand and placed in formalin. Sticklebacks were collected regardless of lateral plate count from a restricted area regardless of condition. This was done to avoid bias resulting from correlation between plate count and condition of fish. It is interesting to note that these fish have been passed long enough to dry up, but although numerous gulls were seen on the beach, large numbers of fish remain, were not eaten. There was no evidence of feeding by birds or any other animal on the stranded carcasses. Creek dry upstream to state park boundary and beyond an undetermined distance. Almost all sticklebacks gaping as though suffocated. It appears from the shape of dry lagoon that in normal years stream would flow across beach to sea- at least in the winter. Also caught Cottus sp.
