Traps checked at 900 hr 6 Aug and only 4 sticklebacks in one and one in another. The nine traps were reset about 50 m along shore over 50 m of shore at 930 hr. The traps were removed about 2200 hr 6 Aug. Only 2 traps contained sticklebacks (1, 25). There were also a few Oncorhynchus mykiss. |

Water temp. = 11 C. This is a very small lake right on the north western edge of the flood plain of the Matanuska River. It discharges into a small distributary through a slow-flowing stream. Many schools of very small salmonids seen and a few sticklebacks seen (medium-sized). Nigel Russell dove in lake to look for sticklebacks; saw no fish. 75-100 Gasterosteus present in 2 size classes: large fish, complete morphs, one low nuptial male, no gravid females; and small trimorphic fish, some low nuptial males, many gravid females. The larger Gasterosteus appear to be anadromous, the smaller resident. Other species present are (in order of abundance): Oncorhynchus sp, Cottus sp, and Salvelinus. |

Divers seen nesting males and solicity female who was dorsal pricked. There was a very wide range of sizes of apparently gravid females (20-70 mm SL). Temp=16°C in shallows on 22 May. Species present: Gasterosteus aculeatus, Oncorhynchus mykiss. Craig saw lots of nest-guarding males. No courtship or distraction displays. Lots of blue males becoming territorial. |

Water temp. = 20 C. This is a study to determine the apportionment of size variance within and among schools of threespine sticklebacks and the relative size of white, Schistocephalus-infected stickleback in schools. I observed them to be common here last week, and today we will try to capture entire schools by seining. A series of 10 schools was seined. |
