Water temp. = ? C. We set traps only at station B, adjacent to the Parks Highway and at station C, at the edge of the large lily pad patch across the lake. We did not see a single stickleback as we (Jill and I) rowed across the lake and me could see about 1 m into the water. Pulled traps at station C at 10:30 am at 31 May and got about 60 stickleback. Pulled traps at station B at 11:00 am and got 200 sticklebacks. Traps put back in without moving. Set 9 traps at 11:15 am, 31 May at station A to north of boat ramp. I will put traps into station D and E later today when we pull them from other lakes. I will pool samples captured on June 2 and 3. Stations: A-boat ramp, B-along north shore near road; C-opposite side at south edge of large lily pad patch; D-near outlet stream and E-along shore near gravel pit. 1 additional trap set to south of public access at station A at 3:30 on 31 May. Nine traps set at station D at 3:45 on 31 May. Nine traps set at station E at 4:00 on 31 May. During our hour or so on the lake we looked in the shallows and as we set traps and never saw a stickleback. Traps pulled 1 June: A at 11:00, B at 10:45, C at 1000, D at 900, E at 930. Some nuptial males have red on flanks and on pelvis, much like anadromous males. |

Water temp. = 20 C. Lilies are flowering-lake is ahead of where it was last year, but I don't see any stickleback. Lettering system does not necessarily correspond to that of previous years. Sticklebacks seen individually or in groups of 2 or 3 as I round along shallows, but sometimes far from shore. Station E: 9 traps set about 1630 near submerged branches at 0.5m. Chara well developed. Traps pulled at 1930 hr. 2.5 bottles. Station C: 9 traps set about 1445 near outlet. Vegetation poorly developed, bottom marly. Some traps set near shore among fallen branches and some in open offshore where sticklebacks seen. Dept 35 cm. Traps pulled at 1730 hr. 2.5 bottles of fish. Unpredictable how traps do in cover vs open. Station B: 9 traps set about 1910. This is station near arm with lots of lilies. Traps set either among fallen alder branches or at nearshore edge of Chara bed where fish seen. Traps pulled at 1800 hr. 2 bottles of fish. I checked traps at Station E, and they contained fish, one about 50 fish. Station A: 20 traps set at 1830 hr. Sample will be culled for reproductives and remaining fish preserved. Traps pulled about 1930 hr to 2100. Water temp. = ? C. Subsamples taken live for crosses and in 95% ethanol for DNA. |

Water temp. = ? C. A few small groups of sticklebacks at boat ramp in shallows, not visible elsewhere. Rainbow trout in area. Loon and grebe on lake. Pulled traps at 19 June at about 1300 hr. Lots of stickleback present in first 3 traps. Gravid females and nuptial males will be taken for crosses-about 10 of each. Nuptial males rare, but fish in every trap so far. I preserved one bottle full in formalin. I eventually got 6 males and 20 females. I released about 1/2 of fish caught. No fry present and fish appear to form one size class. |

Water temp. = 20 C. Traps set about 200 m from north end of lake on east shore and about 100 m past yellow gate poles at new grade, down a notch cut in surface through woods to lake to drain road. One stickleback seen in first trap set, but few seen in water. Kingfisher on lake. Traps pulled about 1430 hr on 19 June. Gravid females less common than males in nuptial colors. No fry present. Most fish in a smaller (1+?) size class, including some reproductives and there is a larger size class including gravid females but no nuptial males. |
