Collecting Event Remarks |
Water temp. = 17 C. Traps set about 1100 hr Aug 8 and pulled about 1030 hr Aug 9. Number of fish per trap was very heterogeneous. Lots of leeches in traps. One nuptial male trapped, but accidently dropped in water. Many males had blue eyes and a little red on throat. There appears to be 3 age classes. The trap with the most fish had many other sticklebacks milling about it. It is still not obvious where to trap; traps near shore and 1-2 m out caught or failed to catch fish. Gasterosteus aculeatus: most in 10% formalin, 8 placed in dark for freezing after 24 hr, 3 in 70% ethanol, 3 in Brunks 1% sarkosyl solution. |

Water temp. = 14.5 C. Traps were set along eastern shore of the creek just behind the beach. Nothing seen, but it looks like good stickleback habitat. Traps pulled 754 hr on 27 May. Species present are: Gasterosteus aculeatus (anadromous), Lampetra sp, Leptocottus armatus, Gasterosteus aculeatus (resident), Catostomus catostomus. None of the threespine stickleback was very sexually mature. |

Water temp. = 20 C. Traps pulled at 746 hr on 22 June. Adults abundant adjacent to shore. Schistocephalus infection is common and multiple infections in high numbers is common. But no white fish! Nuptial males present but no new fry. Only about 50 fish caught. Most of them had Schistocephalus and many were severly deformed. None were white though. Tadpoles present, plus dytiscids, leeches, and dragonfly naiads. This appears to be a normal freshwater assemblage. No other fish species seen or trapped though. |

Water temp. = 19 C. This is a small impoundment above a road embankment, a natural pond. It appears to be shallow throughout and only 100x50 m with emergent grass around entire shore and alder and some spruce a few meters back from shore. About a third of the pond has emergent grasses and Equisetum covering the surface. Traps pulled at 2100 hr 3 July. Two size classes of sticklebacks, smaller (1+) fish put in ethanol. Formalin fixed individual both size classes. |
