Water temp. = 18 C. No adult sticklebacks, no males in nuptial coloration. This is a 65 m long pool formed where the creek is cutting against the west bank of the flood plain forming 20 m high cliff. Small beach is on the east bank. A large animal, possibly 60 cm, escaped from the net, presumably it was Salmo; this suspicion reinforced by numerous fishing gear caught in trees. Some minnows with reddish orange coloration on premaxilla, preoperculum dorsal corner of operculum, pectoral and pelvic axillae, and base of anal fin. Also caught Cottus asper, Oncorhynchus mykiss, Catostomus occidentalis, and atherinid sp. |

Trout were more abundant in most seine hauls, though sticklebacks were very abundant in 2 or 3 of the seine hauls. Only 4 Cottus seined, all large (greater than 15 cm). Fish were collected in a series of adjacent pools separated by riffles along less than 100 m of stream. Also caught Oncorhynchus mykiss and Cottus asper. |

Water temp. = 21 C. No males in reproductive coloration, only 1 adult stickleback seined. All sticklebacks collected, many Cottus thrown back. This sample was made in the upper 100 m of the estuary, below the most downstream riffle. Most of the sticklebacks came from open water, emergent grasses, on beneath recumbent tree limbs. The estuary in this area is flat bottomed with only 1 marginal pothole against a cliff. This pothole contained only Cottus including the single large specimen seined. Platichthys also came from this hole. Dragonfly larvae absent. Also caught Cottus asper, Oncorhynchus mykiss, Leptocottus armatus, and Platichtyhus stellatus. |

Water temp. = 26 C. Males in nuptial coloration were extremely abundant. Gravid females were extremely abundant. Adult stickleback and small fry were extremely abundant. However, intermediate fish were very rare. Green heron seen landing at edge of lagoon. This is a marine estuary. It is choked in the areas seined with aquatic grass. It appears that the sticklebacks were breeding at the edges of the grass because most adult fish were seined in these areas and almost all fish were either nuptially colored males. Males with post-nuptial melanism or large females of which were gravid. Small sticklebacks were very abundant, especially within the grass. Also caught Eucyclogobius newberri. |

Water temp. = 20.5 C. All fishes were seined along the margin of a 90 m long wide spot in the creek below which the stream was dry for 40-50 m followed by pools and another shorter dry stretch. This wide spot was mostly 10-15 cm deep except along one shore where there were large slabs of concrete and twigs in water. This is where most of the fish were found. The largest and most abundant Cottus occured where the algae from one side approached the twigs on the other at the downstream end. Dragonfly naiads present and as in every station on this creek, crayfish have been abundant. Also caught Catostomus occidentalis, Cottus asper, and Oncorhynchus mykiss. |
