Collecting Event Remarks Water temp. = 15 C. Outlet stream is discharging. Traps pulled at 1720 hr on 13 June. Got 20 small (25mm) salmonids and 5 Dalia. Took 2 liter jars for morphological sample. Brain sample (phosphate buffer) was enriched in small fish and males. Windsor took a sample of 50 random specimens for DNA analysis.

Collecting Event Remarks Water temp. = ? C. Set traps along south side of lake near west end. Adult and juvenile stickleback seen. Dipped 200 fry and fixed in PBS formalin. Mushroom shaped pond is small but water is very black. Arctic loon nest at our end of lake. Tern and kingfisher seen. Take middle fork of road just before mile 66 marker. Pulled traps at 1230 hr 20 June. Got a few juveniles, 1 female. Reset traps at west end. Despite numerous fish seen here, catch poorer than yesterday. Traps pulled at 1720 hr 20 June, and only 30 fish caught, all G. aculeatus.

Collecting Event Remarks Water temp. = ? C. This is the site where Pungitius for Mike Shapiro's crosses were trapped. Traps pulled at 1700 on 20 June. We got 20 Pungitius and about 150 Gasterosteus. We fixed the Gasterosteus for Windsor Aguirre in formalin.

Collecting Event Remarks Water temp. = ? C. At each site, we set 6 1/8 inch mesh traps and 4 1/4 inch mesh traps. All traps set between 1600 and 1700 at sites B-E. We will set A later. Many large trout in lake. Local resident said lake level dropped recently, noting what he thought was illegal pumping for construction. Saw one loon and one grebe. Numerous stickleback at site A and in schools near bottom in 1 m of water. Station B: pulled at 1800 on 15 June. Only stickleack caught. Very abundant; filled 2 liter bottles with first 9 traps. Station E: pulled at 1815 hr on 15 June. Only stickleback caught. Not quite as abundant as at station E, but nearly 2 bottles filled. Reproductive males and females at both sites. Station D: pulled at 1833 on 15 June. 2 salmonids in traps. Otherwise only stickleback. They were so abundant that we filled 2 bottles with 6 traps and released the rest. Station C: pulled at 1855 hr on 15 June. Only stickleback; filled 2 bottles. Saw grebe eating stickleback. It came to surface, manipulated them and ate them head first. Stickleback fry in algae adhering to grass. Station A: set 4 1/4" mesh and 6 1/8" mesh traps on 20 June at boat ramp/public access at 1900. Pulled traps at 2030 hr on 21 June. Catch same as below. Set 10 1/8" mesh traps at 1920 at far end of greenhouse (100 m along shore at gravel pit) for adults for behavior experiments. Pulled these traps at greenhouse at 2000 hr on 21 June. Few adults.

Collecting Event Remarks Water temp. = ? C. All traps set between 1800 and 1930 hr. Site A: place usually sampled in previous years. Site B: on west shore near outlet. Site C: near back of trout basin at beaver lodge. Site D: near back of rear basin. Lake level had risen about 25 cm by beaver dam on outlet. Rear basin had lots of brown floating algae and submerged branches. Front basin had Chara patches on marl and emergent vegetation and fallen logs near shore. Site A: began picking up traps at 300. 31 blackfish and a lot of stickleback-2 full jars in formalin, none were let go. Site B: 325 began collecting. Caught 1 rainbow trout and 6 blackfish. 1 jar of stickleback was collected, none were thrown back. There was a "blackfish effect". Traps with blackfish had little or no stickleback. Site C: 356. 2 sculpin, 2 trout and 3 blackfish were caught. 1 very full jar of stickleback caught. None were thrown back. Site D: 410 about 1/2 jar of stickleback was collected. Many traps were found empty and a few were found very full.

Collecting Event Remarks Water temp. = 16 C. Pulled traps at 1900 hr. Got numerous resident Gasterosteus and about 50 Pungitius. We also got about 60 anadromous stickleback. Females not gravid. Most anadromous stickleback came from left of ramp. Set 10 traps to left of ramp far out, where we got most anadromous stickleback. Pulled these 10 traps on 1 June and got about 50 anadrmous Gasterosteus. Threw back 2 Dolly Varden , 30 Pungitius and numerous resident Gasterosteus. These traps pulled at 1530 hr on 1 June.

Collecting Event Remarks Water temp. = ? C. Traps pulled at 1415 hr on 3 June. Got 41 anadromous and 250 resident Gasterosteus. The anadromous fish were taken live and will be frozen for DNA work. The resident fish were preserved in formalin for size allometry study. About 25 Pungitius released and one salmonid released.

Order of set was C, B, E, A and D. Saw small fry in shallows at site A. Saw family of red necked grebes on lakes and a pair of belted kingfishers.
