Objectively invalid; preoccupied by Paralosa Bleeker 1868 and Paralosa Regan 1916 in fishes, apparently not replaced. In Opinion 799 type is given as by monotypy, but it is stated (p. 302) that Sardina dobrogica differs from Sardina pilchardus...; pilchardus is listed as type by Jordan 1920:512 [ref. 4905] and by Fowler.
