Clupea fallax Lacepède 1803. Type by subsequent designation. Objectively invalid; preoccupied by Paralosa Bleeker 1868 and Paralosa Regan 1916 in fishes, apparently not replaced. Also appeared in Rafinesque 1820:38 (Dec.) Current status: Synonym of Alosa Linck 1790. Alosidae. Sardina Antipa [G.] 1904:302 Fem. Sardina dobrogica Antipa 1904. Type needs more research. Also in Antipa 1906 [ref. 6859]. On Official List (Opinion 799). In Opinion 799 type is given as by monotypy, but it is stated (p. 302) that Sardina dobrogica differs from Sardina pilchardus...; pilchardus is listed as type by Jordan 1920:512 [ref. 4905] and by Fowler.
