Brevoortia Gill [T. N.] 1861:37 Fem. Brevoortia menhaden of Gill 1861 (= Clupea menhaden Mitchill 1814). Type by original designation (also monotypic). Brevoortia menhaden Gill is a new combination, Clupea menhaden Mitchill is the senior objective synonym and valid type species. •Valid as Brevoortia Gill 1861 -- (Grande 1985:249 [ref. 6466], Whitehead 1985:210 [ref. 5141], Castro-Aguirre et al. 1999:106 [ref. 24550], Munroe & Nizinski 2003:806 [ref. 26997], Pozzobon et al. 2021:4 [ref. 38249]). Fluviatilis de Buen [F.] 1926:46 As a "grupo" for 2 species of Clupeidae. Not available on basis of Art. 1.3.5 [see de Buen's definition of "grupo" on p. 11]; see Appendix A in Eschmeyer 1990 [ref. 20647]. Alosidae.

Paralosa (subgenus of Alosa) Roule [L.] 1925:73 Fem. Clupea fallax Lacepède 1803. Type by subsequent designation. Objectively invalid; preoccupied by Paralosa Bleeker 1868 and Paralosa Regan 1916 in fishes, apparently not replaced. Earliest subsequent designation of type not researched. •In the synonymy of Alosa Linck 1790 -- (Svetovidov 1973:105 [ref. 7169], Whitehead 1985:191 [ref. 5141], Hoestlandt 1991:86 [ref. 24815]). 1°Homonym. Current status: Synonym of Alosa Linck 1790. Alosidae.

Pomolobus Rafinesque [C. S.] 1820:170 Masc. Pomolobus chrysochloris Rafinesque 1820. Type by monotypy. Also appeared in Rafinesque 1820:38 (Dec.) [ref. 3592]. •Valid as Pomolobus Rafinesque 1820 -- (Grande 1985:249 [ref. 6466]). •Synonym of Alosa Linck 1790, but a valid subgenus Pomolobus -- (Faria et al. 2006:300 [ref. 39548]). •Synonym of Alosa Linck 1790 -- (Whitehead 1985:191 [ref. 5141], Hoestlandt 1991:86 [ref. 24815]). Current status: Synonym of Alosa Linck 1790. Alosidae.

Sardina Antipa [G.] 1904:302 Fem. Sardina dobrogica Antipa 1904. Type needs more research. Also in Antipa 1906 [ref. 6859]. On Official List (Opinion 799). In Opinion 799 type is given as by monotypy, but it is stated (p. 302) that Sardina dobrogica differs from Sardina pilchardus...; pilchardus is listed as type by Jordan 1920:512 [ref. 4905] and by Fowler. Misspelled once (p. 303) as Sardinia. •Valid as Sardina Antipa 1904 -- (Svetovidov 1973:102 [ref. 7169], Whitehead in Whitehead et al. 1984:276 [ref. 13675], Grande 1985:251 [ref. 6466], Whitehead 1985:55 [ref. 5141], Lipej & Dulčić 2010:20 [ref. 36649], Parin et al. 2014:60 [ref. 33547]).
