Canthyrynchus Swainson [W.] 1839:181, 272 Masc. Cottus monopterygius Bloch 1786. Type by monotypy. Spelled Canthyrynchus on p. 181 and 438 (index); spelled Canthirynchus on p. 272. First reviser is Sheiko 1993:71 [ref. 21227] selecting Canthyrynchus. Canthirhyncus is also an incorrect subsequent spelling or misspelling (see Sheiko 1993:71 [ref. 2127]). •Objective synonym of Aspidophoroides Lacepède 1801 -- (Kanayama 1991:88 [ref. 19261], Sheiko 1993:71 [ref. 21227], Sheiko & Mecklenburg 2004:7 [ref. 27591]). Current status: Synonym of Aspidophoroides Lacepède 1801. Agonidae: Anoplagoninae.

Ulcina (subgenus of Aspidophoroides) Cramer [F.] in Jordan & Evermann 1896:449 Fem. Aspidophoroides olrikii Lütken 1877. Type by original designation (also monotypic). Appeared as above without distinguishing features, but accompanied by indication of an available specific name Aspidophoroides olrikii Lütken 1877, clearly included under it (Art. 12.2.5). •Valid as Ulcina Cramer 1896 -- (Lindberg 1973:606 [ref. 7220], Andriashev in Whitehead et al. 1986:1267 [ref. 13677], Kanayama 1991:86 [ref. 19261], Sheiko 1993:86 [ref. 21227], Mecklenburg et al. 2002:526 [ref. 25968], Parin et al. 2002:S103 [ref. 28300], Sheiko & Mecklenburg 2004:8 [ref. 27591]). •Synonym of Aspidophoroides Lacepède 1801 -- (Parin et al. 2014:285 [ref. 33547]).
