Callorhinchus Lacepède [B. G. E.] (ex Gronow) 1798:400 Masc. Chimaera callorynchus Linnaeus 1758. Type by monotypy. Based on Callorynchus of Gronow 1754:59, Pl. 4 (figs. 1-2) [ref. 20783]. Subsequently described from excellent description by Gronow as Callorhynchus (Cuvier 1829:382) and Callorhincus (Duméril 1806:104); unjustifiably emended (from Gronow 1754) by Agassiz 1846:60 [ref. 64] to Callirhynchus. First appeared in synonymy of 'Chimera' Linnaeus 1758 (misspelling of Chimaera Linnaeus 1758; subsequently validated according to ICZN Art. 11.6.1 by Bigelow & Schroeder 1954:560 [ref. 6568]). •Valid as Callorhinchus Lacepède 1798 -- (Nakamura et al. 1986:58 [ref. 14235], Compagno 1986:147 [ref. 5648], Paxton et al. 1989:98 [ref. 12442], Gomon et al. 1994:190 [ref. 22532] as Callorhynchus, Didier 1995:14 [ref. 22713], Paxton et al. 2006:50 [ref. 28994], Gomon 2008:147 [ref. 30616], Di Dario et al. 2011:546 [ref. 31478], Kemper et al. 2015:39 [ref. 34214], Ebert et al. 2021:102 [ref. 38234]). Current status: Valid as Callorhinchus Lacepède 1798. Callorhinchidae.

Callorhyncus Fleming [J.] 1822:380 Masc. Callorhyncus antarcticus Fleming (not of Lay & Bennett 1839) 1822. Type by monotypy. Perhaps best considered an unjustified emendation of Callorhinchus Lacepède; virtually no distinguishing features presented, and none for species independent of that for genus. •Synonym of Callorhinchus Lacepède 1798. Current status: Synonym of Callorhinchus Lacepède 1798. Callorhinchidae.

Callorynchus Gronow [L. T.] 1763:31 Masc. Not available, published in a rejected work on Official Index (Opinion 261). Suppressed. Callorhinchidae.

Callorynchus Cuvier [G.] (ex Gronow) 1816:140 Masc. Chimaera callorhynchus Linnaeus 1758. Type by monotypy. Based on Callorynchus of Gronow 1754:59, Pl. 4 (figs. 1-2) [ref. 20783]. The one included species given as "La Chimère antarctique (Chimaera callorynchus L)." Misspelled Callorhynchus by Billberg 1833:51 [ref. 34146]; see Kullander 2016:107 [ref. 34147]. •Synonym of Callorhinchus Lacepède 1798; both being based on Gronow 1754 (pre-Linnaean).
