Proposed somewhat hypothetically by Girard (1859:57) as a more appropriate generic name for a species he described in the genus Neoclinus; technically not available from Girard 1859 (name mentioned in passing and not used as a valid generic name). Published in an available way in Jordan & Evermann 1898, where the name was used for a subgenus of Neoclinus.
