Genus description also appeared in Sonnini 1803:164, 165 (vol. 8) [ref. 30473]. In the absence of a phylogenetic analysis of the genera of the Channidae, we still use Channa sensu lato. •Valid as Bostrychoides Lacepède 1801 -- (Endruweit 2024:43 [ref. 41040]). •Synonym of Channa Scopoli 1777 -- (Kottelat 2013:459 [ref. 32989]). Current status: Synonym of Channa Scopoli 1777. Channidae.

Type designated by Desmarest 1856:235 [ref. 17401], see to Whitley 1939:223 [ref. 25866] but Whitley has wrong date for Desmarest; evidently not punctatus Bloch. Spelled Ophiocephalus by Hamilton 1822:59 [ref. 2031] (Briggs 1961:163 [ref. 13439]) and by Günther 1861:468 [ref. 1964]. In the absence of a phylogenetic analysis of the genera of the Channidae, we still use Channa sensu lato. •Valid as Ophicephalus Bloch 1793 -- (Endruweit 2024:53 [ref. 41040]). •Synonym of Channa Scopoli 1777 -- (see Teugels et al. 1986:288 [ref. 6202], Roberts 1989:169 [ref. 6439], Kottelat 2013:459 [ref. 32989], Parin et al. 2014:521 [ref. 33547], Zhang et al. 2016:209 [ref. 34477]). Parachanna Teugels [G. G.] & Daget [J.] 1984:1 Fem. Ophiocephalus obscurus Günther 1861. Type by being a replacement name. Replacement for Parophiocephalus Senna 1924, preoccupied by Parophiocephalus Popta 1905 in fishes. Parophiocephalus (subgenus of Ophiocephalus) Senna [A.] 1924:156 Masc. Ophiocephalus obscurus Günther 1861. Type by subsequent designation. Apparently 3 included species (article not translated), with genus established for obscurus but type not designated. Objectively invalid; preoccupied by Parophiocephalus Popta 1905 in fishes; replaced by Parachanna Teugels & Daget 1984 -- (see Teugels et al. 1986:288 [ref. 6202]). Correct spelling of genus of type species is Ophicephalus. •In the synonymy of Parachanna Teugels & Daget 1984 -- (Teugels in Lévêque et al. 1992:655 [ref. 21590], Bonou & Teugels 1985:268 [ref. 26743]). 1°Homonym. Current status: Synonym of Parachanna Teugels & Daget 1984. Channidae.

Philypnoides Bleeker [P.] 1849:19 Masc. Philypnoides surakartensis Bleeker 1849. Type by monotypy. •Synonym of Channa Scopoli 1777 -- (Roberts 1989:169 [ref. 6439], Kottelat 2013:459 [ref. 32989]). Current status: Synonym of Channa Scopoli 1777. Channidae.

Psiloides Fischer [G.] 1813:74, 111 Masc. Bostrychoides oculatus Lacepède 1801. Type by being a replacement name. Jordan 1917:85 [ref. 2407] treats as an unneeded substitute for Bostrychoides Lacepède 1801 [Channidae]. •Objective synonym of Bostrychoides Lacepède 1801. •Synonym of Channa Scopoli 1777 -- (Kottelat 2013:459 [ref. 32989]).
