Elassoma orlandicum Lönnberg 1894 is a senior synonym of E. okefenokee Böhlke 1956, but it has not been used as a valid name after 1899, so prevailing usage is maintained -- (see Gilbert 2004:2 [ref. 27602]). •Valid as Elassoma okefenokee Böhlke 1956 -- (Lee et al. 1980:585 [ref. 22416], Page & Burr 1991:257 [ref. 18983], Mayden 1993:10 [ref. 21162], Gilbert 1998:254 [ref. 23395], Jones & Quattro 1999:470 [ref. 23804], Quattro et al. 2001:514 [ref. 25237], Echelle & Echelle 2002:84 [ref. 27834], Gilbert 2004:2 [ref. 27602], Nelson et al. 2004:151 [ref. 27807], Scharpf 2009:3 [ref. 30400], Snelson et al. 2010:128 [ref. 30727], Page & Burr 2011:605 [ref. 31215], Page et al. 2013:155 [ref. 32708], Robins et al. 2018:306 [ref. 35886], Page et al. 2023:172 [ref. 40505]). According to Gilbert 2004:2-3 [ref. 27602], the type series contains specimens of okefenokee and evergladei, so lectotype designation was needed to fix this species, but a new related subspecies also is involved. Lectotype selected by Snelson et al. 2010:128 [ref. 30727] on Bailey and Böhlke manuscript. •Available senior synonym of Elassoma okefenokee Böhlke 1956 -- (Gilbert 1998:254-255 [ref. 23395]). •Synonym of Elassoma okefenokee Böhlke 1956 under prevailing usage -- (Gilbert 2004:2 [ref. 27602]). •Synonym of Elassoma evergladei Jordan 1884 after lectotype selection -- (Snelson et al. 2010:139 [ref. 30727]). Current status: Synonym of Elassoma evergladei Jordan 1884. Elassomatidae. Habitat: freshwater. zonata, Elassoma Jordan [D. S.] 1877:50, Pl. 45 (fig. 73) [Bulletin of the United States National Museum [v. 1] No. 10; ref. 2374] Little Red River, White County, Arkansas, U.S.A. Lectotype: USNM 20496. Paralectotypes: USNM uncat. (1) [Brazos R., Texas]. Type catalog: Gilbert 1998:255 [ref. 23395]. Lectotype designated by Gilbert 2004:3 [ref. 27602]. See also Boschung 1992:111 [ref. 23239]. Species should be zonatum. Mention of "type" in Jordan 1877:Pl. 45 [ref. 2374] not regarded by us as establishing a lectotype. Gilbert 1998:255 [ref. 23395] assumed that Jordan & Evermann restricted the type locality, but that can only be done through lectotype designation. •Valid as Elassoma zonatum Jordan 1877 -- (Lee et al. 1980:586 [ref. 22416], Warren Jr. & Cicerello 1982:3 [ref. 40469], Robison & Buchanan 1988:392 [ref. 23393], Page & Burr 1991:256 [ref. 18983], Boschung 1992:111 [ref. 23239], Etnier & Starnes 1993:396 [ref. 22809], Mayden 1993:1 [ref. 21162], Warren et al. 1994:133 [ref. 25557], Knight & Hastings 1994:150 [ref. 25560], Mettee et al. 1996:513 [ref. 25836], Gilbert 1998:255 [ref. 23395], Jones & Quattro 1999:470 [ref. 23804], Quattro et al. 2001:514 [ref. 25237], Ross et al. 2001:440 [ref. 25978], Gilbert 2004:3 [ref. 27602], Echelle & Echelle 2002:80 [ref. 27834], Nelson et al. 2004:151 [ref. 27807], Miller & Robison 2004:292 [ref. 27931], Boschung & Mayden 2004:617 [ref. 27995], Scharpf 2009:3 [ref. 30400], Page & Burr 2011:604 [ref. 31215], Page et al. 2013:155 [ref. 32708], Robins et al. 2018:308 [ref. 35886], Bagley et al. 2023:323 [ref. 41241], Page et al. 2023:172 [ref. 40505]).
