Text somewhat unclear, but type apparently not established originally; type designated by Ogilby 1897:71 [ref. 3272]. •Valid as Hyperlophus Ogilby 1892 -- (Grande 1985:246 [ref. 6466], Whitehead 1985:187 [ref. 5141], Paxton et al. 1989:154 [ref. 12442], Gomon et al. 1994:222 [ref. 22532], Monroe et al. 1999:1780 [ref. 24728], Paxton et al. 2006:329 [ref. 28995], Gomon 2008:190 [ref. 30616]). Potamalosa Ogilby [J. D.] 1897:504 Fem. Potamalosa novaehollandiae Ogilby 1897 (= Clupea richmondia Macleay 1879). Type by monotypy. Based on a misidentified type species, not Meletta novaehollandiae Valenciennes 1847; Ogilby 1897:70 [ref. 3272] says type is P. antiqua Ogilby; Paxton et al. 1989:156 [ref. 12442] list C. richmondia as type. Technically should be submitted to the ICZN; Whitehead regards Ogilby's specimens as = P. richmondia, and richmondia would be the best type. •Valid as Potamalosa Ogilby 1897 -- (Grande 1985:247 [ref. 6466], Whitehead 1985:186 [ref. 5141], Paxton et al. 1989:156 [ref. 12442], Paxton et al. 2006:331 [ref. 28995], Kuiter 2018:16 [ref. 36369]).
