Scapanorhynchus Woodward [S. W.] 1889:351 Masc. Rhinognathus lewisii [fossil species] Davis 1887. Type by monotypy. Replacement name for Rhinognathus Davis 1887, fossil genus, described in the Catalogue of the fossil fishes in the British Museum (Natural History), Part. I. A fossil genus, but some Recent species have been described in this genus. •Nowadays, only fossil species are included in this genus. Replacement Name. Current status: Valid as Scapanorhynchus Woodward 1889. Mitsukurinidae.
