Lectotype selected by Cohen 1973:322 [ref. 6589]. Apparently this names dates to Cocco 1846:749 [ref. 26444] with a description, but we regard this name as an overlooked one, and suggest continued usage of benoit Rüppell 1852 -- currently regarded as a synonym of Eretmophorus kleinenbergi Giglioli 1889. The name also appeared as "Pharopteryx benoiti, Rupp. (Gastronemus benoiti? Cocco.)" in Bonaparte 1846:68 [ref. 519] without description. •Synonym of Eretmophorus kleinenbergi Giglioli 1889 -- (Cohen 1973:322 [ref. 6589], Cohen in Whitehead et al. 1986:714 [ref. 13676]).
