Type catalog: Nielsen 1974:96 [ref. 9588]. •Valid as Thaumatichthys axeli (Bruun 1953) -- (Bertelsen & Struhsaker 1977:37 [ref. 5331], Love et al. 2005:61 [ref. 37547], Pietsch 2009:376 [ref. 30766], Love et al. 2021:89 [ref. 39279], Page et al. 2023:166 [ref. 40505], Fricke et al. 2024:676 [ref. 41622]). Current status: Valid as Thaumatichthys axeli (Bruun 1953). Thaumatichthyidae. Distribution: Northeastern Pacific: southern California (U.S.A.) south to Pacific coast of northern Baja California (Mexico) Habitat: marine.

Holotype (unique): YPM 2015. Type catalog: Moore & Boardman 1991:27 [ref. 16741]. Males unknown. •Valid as Thaumatichthys binghami Parr 1927 -- (Bertelsen & Struhsaker 1977:36 [ref. 5331], McEachran & Fechhelm 1998:871 [ref. 23897], Mincarone et al. 2021:24 [ref. 38381], Page et al. 2023:166 [ref. 40505], Fricke et al. 2024:676 [ref. 41622]). Current status: Valid as Thaumatichthys binghami Parr 1927. Thaumatichthyidae. Distribution: Western Atlantic: eastern-central Florida (U.S.A.) south to southeastern Brazil, including Gulf of Mexico and Caribbean Sea. IUCN (2019): Least Concern. Habitat: marine.

M.] & Radcliffe [L.] 1912:580, Pl. 72 (figs. 1-2) [Proceedings of the United States National Museum v. 42 (no. 1917); ref. 4057] Binang Unang Island, 0°04'S, 121°36'E, Gulf of Tomini, Sulawesi, Indonesia, Albatross station 5607, depth 761 fathoms (1440 meters). Holotype (unique): USNM 72952. First author is H. M. Smith. •Valid as Thaumatichthys pagidostomus Smith & Radcliffe 1912 -- (Bertelsen & Struhsaker 1977:36 [ref. 5331], Stewart & Pietsch 1998:21 [ref. 23378], Pietsch 1999:2033 [ref. 24766], Pietsch 2009:375 [ref. 30766]). Current status: Valid as Thaumatichthys pagidostomus Smith & Radcliffe 1912. Thaumatichthyidae. Distribution: Off Sulawesi and (tentatively) Taiwan. Habitat: marine.
