Melanura Agassiz [L.] 1853:135 Fem. Appeared in 1853 without species and with brief characterization. Jordan & Evermann 1896:624 [ref. 2443] list Melanura annulata Agassiz 1854 (sic 1853):135 in synonymy of pygmaea but annulata not mentioned on p. 135; Jordan 1919:252 [ref. 2410] wrongly says type is Exoglossum annulatum Rafinesque and that it was designated on p. 217 of same journal [as 1853 paper]. Included species (as limi and pygmaea) may date to ref. 2443. •Synonym of Umbra Kramer 1777. Current status: Synonym of Umbra Kramer 1777. Umbridae.

Umbra Kramer [J. A.] in Scopoli 1777:450 Fem. Umbra krameri Walbaum 1792. Type apparently by subsequent monotypy. First appeared in Gronow 1763, as unavailable (rejected work); published in an available way as above. •Valid as Umbra Kramer 1777 -- (Wilson & Veilleux 1982 [ref. 14203], Martin 1984:140 [ref. 13639], Jenkins & Burkhead 1994:247 [ref. 21581], López et al. 2000:429 [ref. 24455], Schmidt & Daniels 2006:1 [ref. 28578], Scharpf 2006:22 [ref. 30386], Kottelat & Freyhof 2007:344 [ref. 29996]). Current status: Valid as Umbra Kramer 1777. Umbridae.
