Ameiurus (subgenus of Ictalurus) Rafinesque [C. S.] 1820:359 [ref. 7311]. Masc. Silurus lividus Rafinesque 1820. Type designated by the ICZN in Opinion 1584. Described as a section of the subgenus Ictalurus which in turn was described as a subgenus of Pimelodus. Also in Rafinesque 1820:65 (Dec.) [ref. 3592]. Amiurus Agassiz 1846:17 [ref. 64] is an unjustified emendation.
