Described as a section of the subgenus Ictalurus which in turn was described as a subgenus of Pimelodus. Type designated by Jordan & Gilbert 1877:87 [ref. 4907]. Also appeared in Rafinesque 1820:62 (Dec.) [ref. 3592]. •Synonym of Ictalurus Rafinesque 1820 -- (Gilbert 1998:22 [ref. 23395], Ferraris 2007:207 [ref. 29155]).
