Based on population that arose through intergeneric hybridization events between Rhinichthys cataractae and Nocomis micropogon. According to Art. 17.2 the name is available. Current status: A hybrid. •Valid as Pararhinichthys Stauffer, Hocutt & Mayden 1997 -- (Gilbert 1998:18 [ref. 23395]). •Based on a hybrid between Nocomis micropogon and Rhinichthys cataractae -- (Poly & Sabaj 1998:1084 [ref. 23633]). Current status: Synonym of Rhinichthys Agassiz 1849. Leuciscidae: Pogonichthyinae.
